Pakistan is playing a significant behind-the-scenes diplomatic role in efforts to prevent the collapse of ongoing Iran–United States talks, according to a report by the Financial Times. The report highlights that rising tensions between Tehran and Washington have created a fragile environment for negotiations, with trust deficits, sanctions, and military posturing making progress difficult.

In this context, Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary, attempting to keep communication channels open between the two sides. Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir is described in the report as playing an unconventional but central role in facilitating indirect contact and encouraging dialogue to prevent a full breakdown of negotiations.

The Financial Times notes that Pakistan’s involvement is part of broader regional diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing escalation risks and maintaining stability in the Middle East. Islamabad is reportedly leveraging its relations with both Washington and Tehran to encourage continued engagement, even as direct talks remain politically sensitive.

Pakistan Vows No Compromise on Sovereignty, Warns India Strongly

According to the report, the Iran–US dialogue is currently facing serious challenges due to disagreements over sanctions relief, security concerns, and regional influence. Despite these obstacles, Pakistan is working to ensure that communication lines remain open, with the goal of avoiding a complete collapse of the negotiation process.

Diplomatic observers suggest that Pakistan’s role reflects its increasing engagement in regional mediation efforts, particularly in crises that have wider implications for global energy markets and security. However, the situation remains fluid, and the success of these efforts depends on whether both sides are willing to continue participating in structured dialogue.
