PM Shahbaz Sharif Bans High-Octane Fuel in Government Vehicles

ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered an immediate ban on the use of high-octane fuel in all government vehicles. The move follows a recent increase in the petroleum levy on high-octane fuel.

The directive applies to all federal ministries, divisions, departments, authorities, and subordinate institutions. Officials are instructed to ensure efficient and responsible use of national resources.

Shahbaz Sharif emphasized that any unavoidable use of high-octane fuel in official vehicles must be paid for personally by the user. He warned that violations would face strict action.

The Petroleum Division, acting under the Prime Minister’s instructions, raised the petroleum levy on high-octane fuel by 200 rupees per liter. The levy increased from 105.35 to 305.37 rupees per liter.

As a result, the price of high-octane fuel has reached 534 rupees per liter. Meanwhile, the petroleum levy on petrol and high-speed diesel remains unchanged.

Officials said the ban is part of ongoing austerity measures to reduce unnecessary expenditures. It aims to ensure government resources are used responsibly amid global economic challenges.
