ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari for supporting the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He also thanked the leadership of allied parties, including Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, for their cooperation. The prime minister highlighted the importance of consensus in passing the amendment. He said the legislation represents a collective national effort in the country’s larger interest.

The federal cabinet, chaired by the prime minister via video link from Baku, approved the draft of the 27th Amendment on Saturday. Following approval, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar briefed media representatives about the key features of the proposed constitutional changes. The prime minister welcomed the cabinet members and praised the allied parties in Parliament for their support. He stressed that cooperation among all stakeholders was crucial for the success of the amendment.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the amendment aims to strengthen relations between the federation and provinces. He said the legislation will enhance coordination and governance across Pakistan. The prime minister lauded the Ministry of Law and Justice, the Attorney General, and their teams for their contributions. He described their work as essential for preparing a comprehensive and balanced amendment.

He also thanked Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for his guidance and involvement in the amendment process. Additionally, he appreciated President Zardari’s willingness to support the changes. The prime minister acknowledged the backing of other allied party leaders, including Dr. Maqbool Siddiqui, Abdul Aleem Khan, Khalid Hussain Magsi, and Chaudhry Salik Hussain. These consultations, he said, ensured broad-based political consensus.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further noted that he consulted other political leaders, including Aimal Wali Khan and Ejaz ul Haq. He expressed satisfaction that Pakistan is now moving toward political and economic stability. He urged collective efforts to ensure continued progress and national prosperity. The prime minister concluded by highlighting unity and collaboration as key drivers for the country’s future success.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has revealed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has formally sought his party’s support for the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Bilawal said that a PML-N delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with President Asif Ali Zardari and himself to discuss the proposed amendment.

According to Bilawal, the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill includes provisions for the establishment of a constitutional court, restoration of executive magistrates, and authority for judges’ transfers.
