Police Arrest Boy in University of Lahore Suicide Case

Lahore: Police have made a new arrest in the University of Lahore female student suicide attempt case. A young man was taken into custody on Thursday. Authorities said the development has added a new dimension to the investigation.
The suspect was identified as Ahmed Bilal and arrested from Narang Mandi in Sheikhupura district. Police confirmed that Narang Mandi is also the hometown of the injured student. Officials said the arrest followed evidence gathered during the inquiry.
According to police, the student wanted to marry Ahmed Bilal by choice. However, her family strongly opposed the marriage. Her parents reportedly wanted her to continue her education instead. This disagreement caused severe emotional distress for the student.
Investigators said the student made her last phone call to Ahmed Bilal before the incident. After the call, she deleted his contact number from her phone. Police added that her family’s statements have been formally recorded.

Meanwhile, the student remains under medical treatment at a hospital. Police said she has not yet regained consciousness. Doctors described her condition as serious due to multiple injuries.
According to investigators, the student fell from an upper floor of a university building. She arrived at the campus at 7:58 am but did not attend her class. Police said she stayed on a phone call for nearly 27 minutes before jumping around 8:30 am.
Authorities also revealed this was the second similar incident at the university within 15 days. Last month, a male student, Owais Sultan, died in a similar case. Police said investigations are ongoing to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident.
