Pakistan transporters freight hike

The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance announced a 20 percent increase in freight charges across Pakistan. President Malik Shahzad Awan said rising petroleum prices have significantly increased operational costs. Diesel prices rose by Rs78 per liter and petrol by Rs68 per liter in the last two months. He warned that higher fuel costs affect transporters and trigger fresh inflation for all citizens.

Malik Shahzad Awan urged the federal government to reduce other taxes, such as toll taxes, to provide relief. He said transporters continue to facilitate imports, exports, and business activities despite economic challenges. However, continuous petroleum price hikes are straining the sector heavily. He emphasized that these costs ultimately burden every Pakistani. Transporters seek immediate government measures to stabilize operations.

He criticized both federal and Punjab government policies, saying poor planning previously forced a 10-day nationwide strike. Agreements made during that strike with Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar have not been implemented. Similarly, commitments by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan remain unfulfilled. He demanded immediate action on all agreements to prevent operational disruptions.

Malik Shahzad Awan warned that if governments fail to review policies, transport operations could be halted nationwide. He said the federal government would bear full responsibility for such a shutdown. Transporters plan to monitor the situation closely and take further action if relief is not provided. The statement stressed the urgent need for dialogue between authorities and transporters.

he highlighted the importance of a stable fuel supply for economic activity. Officials said recent petroleum price increases aim to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability. Transporters insist that policy adjustments and tax relief are crucial for sector sustainability. He concluded by urging governments to act swiftly to prevent a transport crisis.
