Ahmad Massoud blames Taliban leaders for deepening Afghanistan’s security crisis and endangering its people. Speaking at a memorial event, Ahmad Massoud said the Taliban have sacrificed the Afghan population by supporting and sheltering extremist organizations operating in the region.
Massoud delivered the remarks during a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the killing of Abdul Ali Mazari, the former head of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan. He said the Taliban’s policies have turned Afghanistan into a stage for security tensions and geopolitical competition involving multiple countries and militant networks.
He also accused the Taliban of offering safe havens to several militant groups. According to him, these include Al-Qaeda, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, Jaish al-Adl, and Ansarullah. Massoud argued that these alliances have worsened instability and drawn Afghanistan into ongoing security conflicts.
In addition, he linked recent cross-border tensions with Pakistan to the Taliban’s actions. He said attacks by the Pakistan Army on Afghan territory reflect the consequences of allowing militant groups to operate freely. Ultimately, Ahmad Massoud blames Taliban leaders for fueling both past and present crises through their support for extremist networks and reckless political decisions.
