The mother of Cape Verde goalkeeper Vezina, who became an overnight sensation at the FIFA World Cup, will attend her son’s next match in Miami after receiving special assistance from US authorities.

According to reports, Vezina’s mother had initially been unable to travel to the United States due to the high cost of visa-related fees. However, the US State Department has now waived the fee and begun arrangements for her journey, allowing her to watch her son play in person.

The development was announced by US House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who shared the news on social media. Jeffries said he had discussed the matter with Marco Rubio and requested that the State Department use its authority to help bring the 40-year-old goalkeeper’s mother to the United States.

“We are pleased to announce that Vezina’s mother, who was unable to travel because of the expensive visa fee, will now be in Miami on Sunday to watch the match between Cape Verde and Uruguay,” Jeffries said. He added that the State Department had waived the visa fee and initiated travel arrangements.

Vezina’s mother, Ana Candida, expressed her happiness at the decision. She said she was excited to meet her son and watch him play on one of football’s biggest stages.

The story has drawn widespread attention as Vezina’s performances at the FIFA World Cup have earned him international recognition and admiration from football fans around the world.

Reports noted that supporters from Cape Verde and several other participating nations were required under a US policy to pay a refundable visa fee of around £11,000. The regulation was introduced earlier this year, creating financial challenges for many fans and family members hoping to attend the tournament.
