Supreme Court doubles utility allowance for employees

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has approved a 100 percent increase in utility allowances for its employees, providing significant financial relief amid rising gas and electricity costs.
According to official details, the increase was approved by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and will come into effect from July 1, 2026. The revised allowance structure applies to employees and officers across all grades of the Supreme Court.
Under the new arrangement, employees in Grades 1 to 6 will receive a monthly utility allowance of Rs12,000, up from the previous Rs6,000. Staff in Grades 7 to 10 will now receive Rs16,000 instead of Rs8,000, while employees in Grades 11 to 15 will receive Rs20,000, compared to the earlier Rs10,000.
The allowance for Grade 16 officers has been increased from Rs12,000 to Rs24,000. Similarly, Grade 17 officers will receive Rs30,000 per month, up from Rs15,000.
For senior officers, the revised rates are also substantial. Grade 18 officers will now receive Rs36,000 instead of Rs18,000, while Grade 19 officers will receive Rs42,000, compared to the previous Rs21,000.

The utility allowance is intended to help employees meet expenses related to electricity and gas consumption. Court officials said the revision was made in view of increasing utility costs and to provide financial support to employees at all levels.
According to the notification, the additional expenditure resulting from the increase will be covered through the Supreme Court’s approved budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
