The federal government of Pakistan has reportedly decided to release salaries and pensions for government employees ahead of Eid ul Adha 2026 to facilitate workers and pensioners before the religious holiday.

According to sources, the Ministry of Finance Pakistan has finalized arrangements for the early disbursement of May 2026 salaries and pensions. Payments are expected to be issued on May 22 in view of the upcoming Eid holidays.

Officials said the decision has been taken under the Federal Government Receipts and Payments Rules 2025. The Controller General of Accounts Pakistan has reportedly been instructed to ensure the timely transfer of funds to employees and pensioners across federal departments.

The Ministry of Finance has also directed relevant institutions to implement the decision immediately so that payments can reach beneficiaries before the holiday period begins.

The move is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of government workers and retirees preparing for Eid ul Adha expenses, including travel, shopping, and sacrificial arrangements.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission has predicted that Eid ul Adha 2026 in Pakistan is likely to fall on Wednesday, May 27, based on astronomical calculations.

According to SUPARCO, the crescent moon for Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH is likely to be visible on May 17. The agency stated that the moon will be approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes old by sunset, which is generally considered favourable for visibility under clear conditions.

The final announcement regarding moon sighting and the official Eid date, however, will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after its formal meeting.

Early salary disbursement ahead of Eid has become a common administrative practice in Pakistan to help employees manage increased household and holiday-related expenses during major religious festivals.
