Gold worth over 300 tolas seized at Karachi airport

Customs authorities at Jinnah International Airport seized more than 300 tolas of gold from a passenger and his family upon their arrival from Abu Dhabi, officials confirmed.
According to Customs officials, the passengers failed to provide valid documentation for bringing the gold into Pakistan. The recovery was made during routine scanning of luggage and hand-carried bags, which raised suspicion and prompted a detailed search.
Authorities recovered 281 tolas of gold jewellery, including bangles and rings, along with 20 tolas of gold bars. In addition to the precious metal, officials also seized foreign currency amounting to $33,100 and 366,000 UAE dirhams.

Following the discovery, Customs officials confiscated all items and registered a case against the passenger for attempting to smuggle undeclared valuables into the country. Investigations are underway to determine whether the incident is linked to a larger smuggling network.
Separately, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has indicated that Pakistan could soon witness a significant inflow of investment. Speaking on a television programme, he said that regional instability, particularly in the Middle East, may prompt investors to redirect capital toward Pakistan.
He suggested that Pakistan’s relatively stable position could attract funds from overseas Pakistanis who had previously invested in Gulf countries. The minister predicted that within the next 15 days, investment flows could increase if the government provides the right incentives.
Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh also stressed the importance of reducing taxes and improving policies to ensure Pakistan remains competitive against other investment destinations such as Hong Kong.
The developments highlight both ongoing enforcement against illegal activities and potential economic opportunities arising from shifting regional dynamics.
