A major fire continued to burn for more than 22 hours at a customs warehouse near Lakpass in Mastung, as firefighting teams struggled to fully control the blaze amid repeated explosions and heavy smoke.

According to district administration officials, the fire erupted around 10am on Saturday and quickly spread throughout the warehouse because of the large quantity of flammable materials stored inside. More than 10 fire brigade vehicles remained engaged in efforts to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.

Deputy Commissioner Mastung said the warehouse contained LPG cylinders, fuel, chemicals, tyres, dry fruits and clothing items. The presence of these materials intensified the blaze and caused multiple explosions after the fire broke out.

Authorities confirmed that several LPG tankers and gas cylinders exploded during the incident, creating panic among nearby residents and making rescue operations more difficult. Thick smoke from the warehouse could reportedly be seen from distant areas.

At least 35 people were injured in the incident, mostly due to burns and injuries caused by explosions. Rescue officials shifted the injured to nearby hospitals where they were receiving medical treatment. Some people reportedly sustained injuries while trying to remove vehicles and goods from the affected area.

Officials further stated that more than 100 vehicles parked near or inside the warehouse were completely destroyed in the fire. Emergency teams worked throughout the night to bring the situation under control.

Despite the ongoing firefighting operation, authorities reopened the Quetta-Karachi highway late Saturday night after the intensity of the fire decreased and traffic conditions improved.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Authorities said an investigation would be launched after the fire was fully extinguished and the area declared safe for inspection.
