OGRA LNG price increase

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has increased Liquefied Natural Gas prices for February. The authority issued a new notification on the revised rates. It raised LNG prices by $0.06 per MMBtu. Officials said the change reflects global market trends. They added that import costs have shifted in recent weeks. As a result, the authority adjusted local prices accordingly. Energy markets worldwide continue to show fluctuations. Therefore, Pakistan’s LNG rates have also changed this month.

Under the new rates, LNG supplied through Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited will cost $11.33 per MMBtu. This price applies to consumers connected to its distribution network. The company mainly serves northern regions of the country. Meanwhile, the authority also revised rates for southern areas. These adjustments follow regular monthly reviews. The regulator considers international contracts and supply terms before finalizing prices.

Similarly, LNG supplied to Sui Southern Gas Company will now cost $10.27 per MMBtu. This rate reflects updated import and handling costs. Officials stated that even small changes matter. They explained that minor increases can affect overall expenses. Consequently, both domestic and industrial users may feel the impact. Gas remains a key energy source for many sectors.

Energy analysts believe price hikes create wider economic effects. They say higher gas rates can raise electricity generation costs. In addition, manufacturing expenses may also increase. Industries often pass added costs to consumers. Therefore, households could eventually pay more for goods and services. The ripple effect may extend across multiple sectors.

Overall, the revised LNG prices form part of routine monthly adjustments. The authority reviews international LNG market rates each month. It also considers long-term supply agreements. As global prices rise and fall, local rates change accordingly. For now, consumers and businesses will adjust to the new February prices.
