Pakistan and Canada discuss expanding bilateral cooperation

High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan, Tarik Ali Khan, called on Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at Parliament House, where both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in key sectors including trade, investment, education and capacity building. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to expanding engagement in areas of mutual priority.
Welcoming the Canadian envoy, Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its longstanding and friendly relations with Canada. He emphasised the need to promote parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, highlighting its role in strengthening democratic institutions and mutual understanding.

The Speaker also pointed out the vast potential for increasing trade and economic partnerships, particularly in sectors such as agriculture and mining. He noted that Pakistan offers significant investment opportunities and encouraged greater Canadian participation in these areas.
Ayaz Sadiq further stressed the importance of enhancing people-to-people contacts, stating that stronger cultural and social links would help deepen ties between the two nations.
He also highlighted that Pakistan’s Parliament holds the distinction of being the world’s first Green Parliament, reflecting the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
On the occasion, the Canadian High Commissioner appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting democratic values and strengthening institutional development. He reiterated Canada’s interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan, especially in education, investment and capacity building.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Canada relations and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close engagement at all levels to further strengthen bilateral ties in the future.
