The government has increased fuel prices, raising the petrol price by Rs6.51 per liter, with the new rate set nationwide at Rs399.86. This decision reflects ongoing economic pressures and global oil market trends. The revised prices took effect from midnight.

According to the Petroleum Division, high-speed diesel prices also saw a major increase. Diesel rates rose by Rs19.39 per liter, bringing the new price to Rs399.58. Officials issued a formal notification confirming these changes and their immediate implementation.

Moreover, the government adjusted petroleum levies as part of the pricing decision. It reduced the petrol levy by Rs3.88 per liter, while introducing a Rs28.69 levy on diesel. Previously, no levy was applied on diesel, making this a significant policy shift.

Meanwhile, authorities dismissed rumors about a nationwide strike by petroleum dealers. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority clarified that no association had announced any shutdown. Officials also assured the public that fuel supply would continue without interruption across the country.

Finally, global oil price fluctuations influenced the latest increase, especially due to tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in supply routes like the Strait of Hormuz. Although international prices recently eased, the petrol price increased by Rs6.51, with the new rate set nationwide remaining in effect.
