In a major reform initiative, the Punjab government has launched a modern, transparent payment system for forest workers, ensuring timely and fair wages through branchless banking and biometric verification.

As per the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the new system eliminates the need for cash payments and introduces secure digital transfers directly to workers via mobile banking. This step aims to curb corruption, deductions, and delays that were commonly reported in the previous manual cash-based system.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb emphasised that transparency in government payment systems is now a top priority. She stated that issues such as wage cuts and late payments are being addressed through the integration of technology in wage distribution.

Previously, forest workers were paid in cash, which often resulted in irregularities and exploitation. With the new digital framework, payments can now be tracked and verified, ensuring that workers receive their full wages promptly.

The Punjab government reiterated its commitment to promoting technology and transparency across all sectors to improve governance and public service delivery.
