LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has promoted five lady assistant superintendents to deputy superintendent ranks. This move is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Jail Reforms Agenda, which aims to improve the prison system. The promotions were officially confirmed through a notification issued by the department on Friday.

The officers promoted include Samra Jabeen, Samina Malik, Samina Azmat, Samina Kausar, and Tahreem Niazi. These officers will take on new responsibilities at various central jails across the province. Samra Jabeen has been assigned to Central Jail Lahore, while Samina Malik will serve at District Jail Gujrat. Samina Azmat is posted at Central Jail Rawalpindi, Samina Kausar at Central Jail Lahore, and Tahreem Niazi at Central Jail Gujranwala.

In addition to the promotions, the government has transferred two jail superintendents. Rasool Bakhsh has been appointed Superintendent of Central Jail Mianwali, while Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi will now serve as Superintendent of District Jail Bahawalnagar.

A spokesperson confirmed that these promotions were made in line with government policy, ensuring that all eligible officers were promoted based on merit and rules. These changes are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the prison system and improve efficiency in Punjab’s jails.

In a separate development, the Adiala Jail superintendent denied claims that PTI founder Imran Khan’s social media activity was being managed from inside the prison. He assured the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that no prohibited items, including mobile phones, have been found in the jail. The superintendent also emphasized that mobile signal jammers are installed at the facility to prevent any online activity.
