Rain Brings Relief and Disruptions Across Pakistan

In the early hours of Friday, April 11, 2025, light to heavy rainfall occurred in several cities across Pakistan, including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhang, Multan, Sargodha, Pattoki, Nankana Sahib, Sangla Hill, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Haripur, and Karak. This precipitation brought a much-needed respite from the prolonged dry spell and soaring temperatures, turning the weather pleasant for residents. ​

However, the rain also led to disruptions in the power supply. In Lahore, the Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) transmission system was affected, resulting in the tripping of dozens of feeders and subsequent power outages in multiple areas. ​

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier forecast rain-thunderstorms associated with gusty winds at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Punjab for April 11. The PMD also predicts mainly hot and dry weather for most parts of the country in the coming days.
