Former U.S. President Donald Trump has successfully brokered a comprehensive ceasefire agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, ending years of conflict between the two nations.
The agreement was signed at the White House by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, with Trump signing as a witness.
“Both countries have agreed to prioritise trade and economic cooperation over conflict,” Trump stated. “I told them: stop fighting—start building.”
Trump announced the lifting of military cooperation bans on Azerbaijan and revealed upcoming technology and AI deals with both countries.
“I don’t want wars, I want peace and prosperity,” Trump added, claiming he had previously prevented war between Pakistan and India.
President Aliyev called it a “historic day”, saying the deal opens a new path to peace and strategic partnership with the US. Prime Minister Pashinyan praised Trump as a “global peace leader.”
In response to a separate question, Trump revealed that an estimated 7,000 soldiers are dying weekly in the Russia-Ukraine war, and confirmed he will soon meet with Putin and Zelensky in a bid to end the conflict.
