Switzerland Denies Airspace Access to Two US Military Flights Under Neutrality Law

Bern: Switzerland has refused permission for two military flights from the United States to use its airspace, citing the country’s neutrality law.

Swiss authorities stated that flights related to military operations connected with armed conflicts cannot be granted passage through Swiss airspace under existing neutrality regulations.

According to officials, the two rejected flights were associated with military activities and were therefore not allowed to cross the country’s airspace.

However, the Swiss government clarified that the restriction does not apply to all US flights. Authorities confirmed that three other flights from the United States have been granted permission to pass through Swiss airspace.

Swiss officials emphasized that humanitarian flights can still be approved. These include aircraft carrying medical supplies, transporting injured individuals, or operating for other non-combat purposes.

The government noted that maintaining neutrality remains a central pillar of Switzerland’s foreign policy and is strictly observed in situations involving international conflicts.

Analysts say the move reflects Switzerland’s continued effort to uphold its long-standing neutral stance amid rising global geopolitical tensions.
