Audit Exposes Zakat Fund Irregularities Among Government Employees in KP

An audit has exposed irregularities in Zakat fund among government employees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, raising serious concerns about the misuse of welfare funds. The report for the fiscal year 2025 revealed that both serving and retired public employees received financial assistance meant for the needy.

According to the audit findings, 419 government employees benefited from the Zakat fund. These included 317 federal employees and 33 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In addition, employees from Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan were also among the recipients.

Moreover, the report stated that over Rs5.3 million was distributed among these employees. Fifteen individuals received Rs30,000 each, while the remaining 404 received Rs12,000 each. It also noted that officers from grades 15 to 17 were included, despite not being eligible for such support.

Furthermore, the audit revealed wider financial mismanagement in the Zakat system. It found that nearly Rs19.7 million was given to ineligible individuals under subsistence allowance. Additionally, Rs42 million in irregularities were reported under marriage grants, showing systemic weaknesses in oversight.

Finally, the Auditor General directed authorities to recover all misused funds and take strict action against those responsible. The report also highlighted illegal inclusion of government employees in Zakat committees. Overall, the audit exposes Zakat fund irregularities among government employees and calls for urgent reforms.
