NADRA Launches Face Recognition-Based Biometric Verification Facility

In a significant development, NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) has introduced a new biometric verification facility, allowing citizens to verify their identity using facial recognition. This service is particularly useful for elderly citizens or individuals who face difficulties with fingerprint verification due to medical conditions or other reasons.
Under the guidance of the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister, NADRA has amended the national identity card laws, expanding the definition of biometric verification. Now, citizens can opt for facial recognition-based biometric verification, providing an easy solution for those who face issues with fingerprint verification.

This facility will also be available on NADRA’s new mobile app, “Pak ID.” Citizens can now use the app to verify their identity through facial recognition, reducing the need to visit NADRA centers physically. This move further modernizes NADRA’s services and makes it more convenient for citizens.
Starting from January 20, 2026, NADRA centers will begin issuing biometric verification certificates based on facial recognition. Citizens can obtain these certificates for a small fee. The certificate will include the individual’s photo, ID card number, name, parentage, unique tracking ID, and a QR code. The certificate will be valid for seven days.
This new service will benefit citizens by providing an alternative verification method when fingerprint verification is not possible. In such cases, they can visit the nearest NADRA registration center to complete facial recognition-based verification. NADRA is fully prepared to implement this system and has also requested relevant government and private institutions to take necessary steps.

NADRA has also introduced a complaint resolution system to ensure smooth operation of this service. After January 20, citizens can report any issues related to this facility to the relevant department or agency. Additionally, once the Digital ID is launched, this service will also be available on the Pak ID mobile app, further enhancing convenience for citizens.
