Two FC personnel martyred in Bannu attack

Two personnel of the Federal Constabulary were martyred in a firing incident carried out by unidentified assailants in the Karam Garhi area of Bannu, officials said on Sunday.
According to police and security sources, the attack took place within the jurisdiction of Cantonment Police Station when armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on the personnel, who were present in a local market for shopping. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the incident, prompting a swift response from law enforcement agencies.
The martyred personnel were identified as Havaldar Rokh Niaz and Sepoy Rehmanullah, both associated with the Daryoba platoon. Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down those responsible. Strict checking and snap inspections were carried out at multiple points, while additional police contingents were deployed to maintain security.
Authorities confirmed that all available resources were being utilized to apprehend the attackers. Officials described the incident as part of ongoing attempts by anti-state elements to create instability in the region.
In a separate development, an abandoned police post in the Shamozai area was destroyed using explosives late Saturday night. The post, located within Township Police Station limits, had been non-operational since 2022, and no casualties were reported. Investigators believe explosives were planted under the structure before detonation.
Meanwhile, a local Qaumi Jirga announced a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike on April 20, citing demands including the reopening of blocked roads and withdrawal of cases against community elders.
Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan expressed grief over the loss, stating that the sacrifices of the personnel would not go in vain and reaffirming the commitment of security forces to maintaining peace.
